Leicester City FC were in emphatic form during the 1970 – 1971 campaign as they finished it off as second division champions, which in turn earned the club promotion back in to the top flight. They also enjoyed a delightful run in the FA Cup that saw the club reach the quarter finals of the cup competition however they suffered defeat against Arsenal in the last eight of the competition. The 1972 FA Cup saw the Foxes suffer defeat in the fourth round against giant killing opposition, Leyton Orient. Jimmy Bloomfield guided Leicester City in the first division and helped the club finish off in a decent 12th position at the end of their first season back in the first division. Gordon Banks had left the club at this stage and the following two season saw the foxes finish off in 16th and ninth positions respectively.
The Foxes enjoyed a terrific run in the 1974 FA Cup that saw the side reach the semi finals of the cup competition, they suffered defeat against Liverpool in the last four in a match played at Villa Park. The foxes crashed out of the league cup in the second round as they suffered defeat against Hull City in the cup competition.
