The 2002 - 2003 campaign saw Coventry City finish off in a very disappointing 20th position as they were involved in a relegation battle for the majority of the campaign. They managed to stay up in the first division and saw themselves improve to a 12th position finish at the end of the 2003 – 2004 campaign.
The sky blues were disappointing in the FA Cup during the two season as they crashed out of the competition in the fourth round as they suffered defeats against Rochdale and Colchester United.
City were disappointing once again during the 2004 – 2005 season as they ended it off at the foot of the table in 19th position finish, narrowly escaping relegation.
The sky Blues enjoyed their finest season in the second tier of English football as they finished it off in eighth position, narrowly missing out on a birth in the play offs. Dennis Wise made all the difference at the end of the season as his arrival spurred on a revival in the league. Micky Adams took charge at the club during the 2005 - 2006 campaign.
